Details

Personality: Kind | Smart | Peaceful | Quiet | Fearful

Lorcan knew kindness and love from a very young age, and his personality reflects that. He does his best to show respect to others and help any who need it. It doesn't take much to content him, he is perfectly fine spending an afternoon grazing in relative silence. He doesn't usually say much, but is more open around those he knows well. While he can protect himself, as is a must in Blackwood, he prefers to spend his time working with magic, either tending to his insects or learning to commune with spirits. The attack by the eagle at such a young age left more than just physical scars- with the attack and his treatment afterwards, Lorcan developed some anxiety and can be somewhat fearful when thrust into new situations.

Appearance: With his dark coat, Lorcan is ideal for life in Blackwood, where being able to blend in to one's surroundings is a must. He is well muscled, with a bulk of muscles, yet not so bulky as to keep him from being able to maneuver with ease. His hair is naturally quite curly and he keeps his coat immaculate and scents himself with pleasant herbs. His mane and tail are kept long, and mostly free of decorations. He has grown quite the beard and along his neck, chest, and underside the hair is longer than the rest of his coat. His pelt is littered with scars from his various battles. Perhaps most notable is the scar that seems to continue his mouth into a smirk from the hawk attack when he was younger. His decorations are quite practical, consisting of sinew wraps around his antlers, tail, and around his front left knee when traveling. He will sometimes slide herbs into the sinews. He has a bird skull amulet around his neck; he summons fireflies to sit in the eye sockets while he performs magic or travels in the dark. His left brow is pierced by the canine fang from his coming of age ritual kill.

History

Lorcan was born to a loving couple. Both Barin, his sire, and Adalind, his dam, had strong necromancy magic, so he grew up around the spirits of the dead and feels at ease around them. Growing up, he would listen to what stories they had to tell from their lives and was interested by what secrets they could divulge.  As he grew, he could not wait to summon spirits with his own magic, but when he turned three he found that it wasn't necromancy that he wielded, but rather possession magic.

He was determined to make the most of his magic anyways, and would practice it, turning animals to be his companions and aids. Practice he did, until one day he made a near fatal mistake that would leave him forever with gruesome scars as a reminder. While out in the forest, he came along a large bird that he took for a regular large bird he could use his magic on, but when he came closer, reaching out for its mind with his magic, it was apparent that it was no crow or raven, but a hawk, and a large one, at that. The hawk was none too happy with being messed with and took his face in talon as it soared up into the sky, tearing the skin. It was painful, and the healing process was long and troublesome, but he survived it, though he will forever be forced to think upon his foolishness whenever he catches sight of his reflection when he gets a drink.

The other herd-members were cruel about it- his scar was not a sign of prowess in battle or survival, but the mark of a young stag who took on more than he was able. He became more withdrawn, often haunting around when necromancers were practicing to spend time amongst the spirits.

His beloved older sister, Isa, also hit a rough patch that next year, losing her fawn. She suffered greatly, and Lorcan wished that there was some way he could help her heal after the loss. When she began to wander, following the spirit of her lost colt, he would make an effort to track her down and visit with her, making sure that she was as alright as possible and keeping out of too much danger, until she wandered too far and he could visit her no more.

Eventually the urge to use his magic resurfaced- he was tired of being alone and wanted a companion to join him. Avian familiars were common in Blackwood, but after his experience with the hawk he had developed a phobia towards them and could not bear to summon or control one. He talked about this with his grandfather, who offered a solution, remarking that sometimes insects and other bugs could be just as frightening, if not more so, than a bird in battle. Lorcan thought this over, trying to decide what might suit him, eventually settling on bees and wasps. They suited him, and he found comfort with them.

One day while he was out, he came across a bay Silverthorn doe, Skadi, being attacked by wolves and jumped in to help. Once they had run off the wolves, he learns that she lost track of her fawn in the attack. He recruits the help ofa soldier he is acquainted with, Falakee, and they go back after the wolves, but they end up finding no sign of the filly. Lorcan does his best to help the injured, mourning doe and finds himself becoming rather attached to her.

Future Plans:
-Do some flashback stories and RPs to fill in his history more
-Develop his relationship with Skadi and hopefully his siblings as well
-Learn Necromancy as his second strain of magic
-Work more with his possession magics now that he's chosen a type of familiar
